I was reading the othter post from bax and his problems. It occurred to me to relate different waterproofing methods. I have brick on the front of my house up to the bottom of the windows thereabouts. Then vinyl siding. The rest of the house is vinyl. I have felt paper on the sheathing on the front where the bricks is. It has tyvek where the siding is. Now the house next to me, built this year, has the whole front bricked, with the other three sides vinyl. These builders put tyvek under the vinyl, but on the front they only put felt around the window openings. There are large expanses of bare sheathing under the brick. I would think the homeowner will be looking at rot in the future.
Another house that is being built down the road by a different builder is totally bricked. It has no tyvek or felt on the sheathing under the brick. Even no visible flashing around windows and doors. This is a big house with a lot of brick. No waterproofing under the brick that I can see. I guess different builders and masons have different methods, but no felt or tyvek?
