I’ve bought a project, a house built in 1957 with a whole bunch of cosmetic problems and minimal structural problems. One of the more immediate things I’d like to fix is the exerior of this house where the brick facade (about 2 1/2 feet up of great brick) has fallen off of a 2 foot wide section at the end of the garage. There is black tarpaper?? behind the bricks on this small section. There is also a slightly larger section that looks like its starting to bow out from the wall as well. Anybody have any good resources I could read about brick work? I figure this brick facade should be something I can learn to do myself. Any resources would be appreciated. Thanks!

If the brick has fallen off and the other section is about to, my guess is the facade was never tied into the house by brick tyes. These are metal straps that are nailed to the sheeting preferably into the stud and bent into a grout line of the brick, holding it to the house.
Readers Digest has a good DYI book for small types of projects like this. FYI they also make a book for small home appliance repair.
