brickmold and custom halfround window
Hi, I’m new here. Hoping you all can answer my question, because I can’t seem to find an answer. I am needing a custom 6 ftX2.5 ft half round window. Since I want an old-fashioned look, I asked the drafter how to achieve this. He suggested “brickmold”. I’m not exactly sure how this aluminum brickmold works and I don’t understand the explanation. All i do know is that the aluminum brickmold costs more than the(half-round) window and muntons . Can someone explain why? And is there a cheaper way to do this? The quote is from Pella.

Brickmold is usually a type of heavy ( thick) casing used to trim out the exterior side of doors.
Best advice I can give you is to price out your window from other manufacturers. I recently installed a 4 ft wide window with an arched top, but this window was vinyl, and I ordered it with a vinyl J channel attached because it was being placed inside a vinyl sided house. I could have ordered trim casing for the interior side, but didn't...my mistake..thought it would be easy to make in house...it's not. A custom shop quoted me a price of $30 per linial foot. Instead, I used one of the new "plastic woods" on the market. Was able to bend it with pressure and a heat gun to conform. Turned out just fine in the end...but was a big, big, headache.
Wherever you buy your window, have the same company make up your exterior and/or interior trim casing....it may cost, but the end result will be perfection.

Just my 2 cents.

You can order the window, and purchase the brick mold separately. There are several brands of flexible molding available. Basically, molded rubber that you can bend to any shape.
Of course, if you can afford it, I suggest the aluminum. You won't ever have to paint it, and it will last forever.
