andybuildz | Posted in General Discussion on January 25, 2003 05:35am

Being that no one answered my question in the Sandpit I’ll ask it here.

I have all my preferences right to have any post thats directed to my name go into my Email, notifiying me but I never get any mail. I use too, what changed?

Think someones mad at me? Whats up wit dat?

Something else is odd in you configuration here too Andy. When I click on you name to look at your profile I then clcik "Vist Website" and it takes me to a Prospero Not Found 404 Error page. It's looks as though you left the "http://..." off of your website URL.

I also just used the "Send E-mail" function from your profile too to test that too.

    Let's see what happens.

      Jerrald

That is weird but when you click on my website at the bottom of the posts it does work....hmmmm.

I just changed in my preferences "change E mail address" to see what happens.

      Thanks

The link at the bottom of you posts works because it has that "http://..." that I noticed was missing with that 404 error. I guess you didn't get my e-mail I sent through the system? Sending myself a copy of it worked so that at least confirms that the system works.

Well there's this button right below the picture of your house that says "Send E-mail" and I used it to try and send you an email this afternoon via the Prospero system. They (Prospero) hide your e-mail address to protect you from spamers and keeping your address from being spread around by Klez and some of the other viruses that are propogated via e-mail. That's one of my gripes with JLCOnline. The lack of privacy protections their forum system provides is responsible for half of the spam and 99% of the viral infected mail that I recieve.

I'm guessing you didn't get that test e-mail I sent through the Prospero system? You may want to check the exact syntax of how you have that listed in your preferences too. I've gotten e-mails form others here on Breaktime that way so it would be my understanding that it works although since I heard the subscription feature is giving some people problem it may be a glitch or bug they a currently experiencing. I'll try sending you another test message just as soon as I click to post this.

Your not the only one Andy. My email notification of messages is patchy to say the least. I went and checked my prefs, double checked I was doing it right.............nope, still wont do it.

I logged on today and found a bunch of replies to things I had subscribed to and nothing on the email. As you said, "Whats up wid dat"?

Thanks Andy, for some weird reason it seems to be working fine right now and I didnt do anything. I will go and retype my email addy anyhow just to make sure.

If it had some sort of pattern to it things would be a whole lot easier to figgure out.

Remember the old days? Webex, messages as fast as they appeared, that sort of thing. <sigh>

Andy, FWIW, just now, tonight, the link from your profile worked fine for me, using IE under XP.

According to the news, there's somekind of kletz thing slowing the internet down today. I haven't had it effect my PC stuff but when i called a bank, they couldn't access my info. Is your problem just today - saturday - or for a few days now?

    1. JerraldHayes | Jan 26, 2003 06:17am | #12

Okay I sent you another e-mail via Prospero and using the option to send a copy of it to myself I got it virtually as soon as I sent it off so the viral problems that took out one of my web and e-mail servers earlier today didn't seem to be a problem this evening.View Image

Jim....I still have my tin foil hat but I think it may have gotten magnitized somehow and you know what that does to puters! Zapppppppp!

Anytime. I made the syntax mistake with an e-mail address on one of my websites a while back. When I didn't get any e-mail for a while I checked and discovered that there was an extra space keystroke in the address that was screwing things up that I just couldn't see. Ya never know I guess. It could have been that. 'Could have been something else. Sometimes figuring this stuff out just means getting lucky.

I`m with you Andy.....it doesnt seem to happen often, but the other day I just happened to be looking back over some old threads that I had gotten bored with and I came across at least three posts to me that I was never notified about.

Perhaps this would be a good time to pass along some apologies to those who I never responded to.....you know who you are....if they were of any true importance, lemme know and I`ll be glad to respond.

JD...Thats how I felt about not responding. Try retyping your Email address in your preferences. Seems thats what I needed to do for some reason.
