I am a remodeler and mainly a trim carp. but every now and then I get a tile job. I have done a few shower pans (6) and all have been pretty good, (except my own shower which was 7 feet long. I ended up with low spots and water sets there…it was my first one).
There was an issue of FHB that detailed shower pans about three years ago. I read that article hundreds of times. And it was very helpful. But I still have a few questions:
Can you use a Sandmix for the pan? I did and it works but is it RIGHT? Is it Harmful? Why?
What is the method for the threshold? After you get the three stacked 2x4s in place do you run the liner all the way to the floor on the other side?
I have wrapped it in hardibacker and it seemed fine. However, I did have to spread silicone under the top piece so I could nail it to the threshhold. I also dabbed silicone under the nail head . The inside peice I let the sand mix hold.
Also, placing small pebbles around the weep holes sounds good in theory, but doesnt that weaken the shower pan mix in that area. Seems like it would cave in at that point.
send some pointers my way please.
thanks
