   Google search for code check - I think they've got a brief version online.

   A lot of counties have *.gov web sites.

   First time I accessed http://www.metrokc.gov for codes(King county, WA), I had to call in and find out what section building codes were  under. Laughed out loud when I was told look under "services"!!!,  what a laugh,  more like extortion.  If I rebuilt my house now, the permits would cost MORE than the materials!!!!

   My office has online access for several codes, including the International Building Code. This is a premium service however, that is covered by a huge overhead. Sadly, I do not believe it is affordable for the single user....that's not a mistake, it's rustic

   Bill,

   I,ve looked and never found actual code text online. They sell the code books and want you to buy them or subscribe to the service.

   Thanks, That has been my experience although I did find one site with very simplistic code info that was helpful in this particular instance.

   I have to find the site again, think it was called...codecheck.com

   Primitive though it was it did help me with my question.  Actually verified what I did not believe.

   Bill,

   I don't know what your specific need is, but, since I and my company regularly deal weith plan reviewers and inspectors on various building aspects (we do mechanical, plumbing electrical and fire protection plans, have the actual code text is a must for us. If you need it for a permit or a dispute, I would recommend getting the actual code that applies. Some sources that may be able to provide a copy for you to borrow are: your local building and zoning department (I have had inspectors send me copies of specific sections, on occasion), your local library or technical library if one is near you, local architects (if you know them). BTW, what code are you looking for?

   Tim,

   I was looking for verification of clearance dimensions at the face of a masonry fireplace.  The reason for looking online was because my source (engineer that I use) was harried that day and quoted me some numbers off his head and said he would get back to me today (he did, and he was right).  I was just attempting to find a quick check to see if he was correct, which as I said, he was. 

   After looking around I figured someone may have known of a site.
