I have a walk-out basement with an old wooden deck above it. I want to tear off the deck and build a sun room and a deck at the end of the sun room. The problem is that I have an aerator septic tank 17 ft from the house. To get the layout I want, the deck would be over the tank. The deck would be 8 feet above the septic tank. There is an above-ground cover to the tank that would allow for motor service and tank cleaning. The post could easily straddle the system. My question is whether or not I will have any problems building over the tank? Is there a limit to how close I can build? (I live in a rural area with no building codes.)

Good neighborhood to be in. Saw this is your first post, welcome.
Here codes are nothing within 10 feet.
What you describe looks OK as long as you dont sink any holes thru your tank or piping and the tank is in good shape, also,
Since it is a walk out basement, am assuming the tank is below basement floor level - DWs cousin in ND had his tank leak and seep thru the conc. block wall into the basement, you would not want that which is where some of the codes get the 10 ft separation.
EDIT BTW: It would help if you moved your query out of the 'fest' category into general discussion or const. tech. thread.
