bulkhead basement doors

catch32 | Posted in General Discussion on March 24, 2006 04:41am

Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any low maintence bulkhead doors. The Bilko plastic door won’t fit my application. I have tried to contact a company in Mass. called Paramount that makes fiberglass doors but have had no response.

Thanks

me too...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->

401-253-1711...ask for Chris great guy to do biz with!! Tell him Bob sent ya...I bought one of these last week.

It took me a while to track this place down, but the door kicks azz!! Biggest concern was wind driven horizontal rains that always leaked through my steel Bilco doors. The clam door has a single door with a full perimeter weatherstrip. Closes and seal like the trunk of your car.

Forget the composite Bilco...JUNK--IMO!!!! They had a stop delivery notice placed on the product last fall due to material breakdown(?)...at least that was what I found out. The rep would not confirm what the fault was, just said "yeah...something like that"

Kinda curious, was there a specific issue you were looking for answeres to? You mentioned the Bilco won't fit the application...non standard sizing problems? The door I gave you the link for is made by a boat builder. Hi end ($$$) quality and built solidly. I'm sure he could do a custom size if needed.

Thanks for the lead on the bulkhead door, I'll give him a call on Monday. My customer wants a door that requires less maintaince than the steel doors and the existing foundation dimensions are such that only the Bilko size "B" door will fit. I had looked at the Bilko Ultra Series but it is only made in their size "C". Besides it is a piece of c..p! How much did the Clamdoor cost you?

      Thanks: Mike

Not cheap that's for sure!...$950 with tax. But worth every bit of it IMO, considering he'll guarantee it won't leak during the severe weather I get sometimes. That was my biggest concern.

Well my client has finally almost decided on the Clamdoor, but would like to see one installed before commiting to it. I am in northeast CT and was wondering if anyone has one not to far away that I can take them to see.

I live in the SE part of CT, but have not installed the door yet.

Since your located in the NE part of CT, why not take a ride to where the door is made. Chris's shop is in Bristol RI...not far from you. Took me a little less than 1 1/2 hrs from New London CT, pulling a car trailer.

But if your client needs to see it installed, sorry...can't help ya there.

            Not yet anyway...

The problem is that my client is a little old lady in her 80's so a long trip is probably not likely but thanks. I need to call the company again to try to find out from them if there is one to see installed. When I talked  to them last they were not sure about seeing one installed. I was just hoping that someone that had one installed would read the thread.

            Thanks Mike
