Sh*t. Just got the “Stop Work” notice on my door in response to a small dormer I thought I could slip through undetected.
Any advice on how to handle this most gracefully? It’s completely framed, and up to code, but not finished at all.
Thanks
Eli

Don't Close in. Is it your house? If so you are going to have an easier time. Go get the permit and play dumb. If not, go get the permit and say you got started before the drawings were ready. The inspector will probably give you the roughest time and be on your butt every chance he gets.

Eli, Tsk,tsk, tsk even if you had gotten it done you may still have gotten caught. Don't play dumb, just fess up and maybe tell him you thought take of the nice weather and some free help on the weekend and you intended to catch up with the permit. But most of all you should just apologize, pay your fees and don't do it again.

I'd suggest saying as little as possible and copping no attitude. Just, I got this notice and I'd like to apply for a permit. If they want to be the Gestapo that's their problem. And if they want to fine you, well chalk it up to experience. Lucky your framing is still exposed or they could make you tear it all apart for inspection.
