BX cable as surface mount in garage?
Can BX cable be surface mounted in a garage, ontop of the sheet rock? It would be a 20 amp 120v circuit. The outlet would be in the room on the other side of the garage wall.

why not...
it's armored...
but some locales may limit lengths of run...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
I know I can run emt pipe on the surface. But I didn't know if BX was allowed on surface.
I'm feeling lazy and do not want to remove the drywall and drill studs for romex, if I do not have to.

I can't quote you a code section, but I was always taught no, cable has to be run inside the joists.
I just checked with my electrician, he said no too. It has to be run within. Sorry.

Well, if I were to pull off the drywall, I'd be using romex. Which I have a bunch of leftovers from other projects. I have tape and mud. But I do not want to do any more taping and muding. I've done too much of that this year.
Since I have the romex already, I "could" get some emt, skin the romex and run the wires within, right? Then I do not have to pull off the drywall. Altho I have to buy some emt.
Bummer.
I'm feelin lazy about this.
Why not consult the Code?
334-3 Uses permitted:
4) where exposed or concealed
8) as open runs of cable
1999 NEC
You might want to run a guard strip.
