Whenever I’ve used armored cable I always used metal boxes with cable clamps. However I have a situation where I want to run BX but need to use a plastic old work box. Is there anything wrong or against code with this? The only thing I see is that the plastic box doesn’t have a round knockout to put a clamp on so I would just have to use the little friction tabs and push the BX thru. Comments please.

Jam the BX into the plastic box and call it good? Pray you don't have a fire or electrical inspection?
Theres one in every crowd
drill a hole in the box to accept a BX connector..

Thanks IMERC. Thats so obvious I didn't even think about it. Makes me think about how I tell my students there is no such thing as a stupid question. Thanks again.

Lowes had blue plastic boxes with conduit bx knock outs. Saw them yesterday at mine.
Only problem I see is if you are going in the box then out again and are grounding through the armor you would break the ground, also if you are just grounding with the armor, when you use a metal box and you pigtail the ground to the box. But if you have a ground wire I see no problem.

use a bond collar on the connector...

This will be 12/2 with ground terminating in a round ceiling "old work" box. I too have seen the blue boxes with the knockouts but for whatever reason this particular style doesn't have them. My main concern was having a solid connection to the box and I just didn't like the idea of using the friction tabs. Drill a hole dummy, duh...... Thanks to all.
The issue would be the ground. If the BX doesn't include a separate ground wire then you'd need a special box connector that provides a ground lug.
I said it fi-irst Nah Nah Nahnaa! Is that how you spell it? Just glad to see someone shares my view for once!Wallyo
