Could someone tell me the proper way to measure for cabinets. I know the installers charge by the linear foot, but I just want to understand exactly how that is calculated so I can figure on how much it will cost me for installation. For example I have a cabinet that is 7′ tall by 2′ wide. Would that be 7 linear ft? And if so at $150.00 per linear ft. for installation would that be $875.00? I would appreciate some insight on this. I don’t know much about this stuff. Thank you

Lou,
Just the opposite...you`re example indicated two linear feet. When measuring for cabinetry its the horizontal run that you take into account. You`re example works out to $300.00 for the cabinet specified. However there is usually a minimum which varies by installer. I don`t know if the $150.00/ lin. ft. was just for example sake, but I doubt you`re going to find a 2 ft. wide by 7 ft. tall cabinet installed for $300.00.

I usually figure a cabinet install by the "box". Every base cab, upper and anything else that's a pc. That would include the micro, the valance and even the space kept for the DW. I will make note of and add for specials such as oven cabs, pantry and island pcs. Then you've got the shoe, crown, light-rail or whatever on top of the uppers, the counters and any add-on hardware besides the knobs or pulls. That cab as part of a kitchen install would not cost anywhere near 300.00, but I don't think I'd run right over and just install that (complete) for 300 either. I think you should pick someones brain that can see it to get a proper price. Best of luck.__________________________________________

Thanks guys
I was just answering his question as he put it. I dont charge by the lineal foot either. Each and every kitchen is unique and I dont attempt to put set prices where there are far too many variables. J. D. Reynolds

You're absolutely right J.D. and wouldn't it be nice to get a hundred and fifty a foot on a whole kitchen cab install? Man, that's good eatin'.__________________________________________

Would that be "Dear Wife" or "Dish Washer" or are they the same thing?
I would suppose you could take either, but I'm sure the modern woman would be upset with that space. DW would be dishwasher.__________________________________________
