cac register in cathedral ceiling
hello all, i recently had central air run through a gutted dormer and they assured me it wouldnt present any problems using the shallow 2×6 and 2×8 rafter bays to run the ducts, but the top of the ceiling registers are actually flush to the sheathing!! theres basically 4 square holes in my roof. the insulators are coming tuesday, and this just doesnt look right…anyone have any thoughts on this?? thanks

I do, but the moderator would shut down this thread if I shared them freely. In short you have been victimized by a hack.
OTOH, you can use surface mounted grilles in lieu of registers if there is no room for the later. You have no ability to regulate the flow, but you will have flow.
thanks for advice tim, my biggest concern is condensation on inside of the tin boot. the house is a cape, and the air handler is behind the knee wall in closet so if it becomes the headache i'm sure it will be i guess i can just relocate registers into closet wall by cutting into ducts in closet space, pull out the flex and spray foam the cavity. hoping it doesnt be ome. ecessary... thanks again for advice
