So I’m currently in the midst of planning my Kitchen Renovation and am soooo confused about Kitchen Cabinets.
I’ve looked at the local HD / Lowes stuff and also the cabinets over at the local Expo center. The Quakermaid cabinets that I saw I like – as far as fit, finish and build quality. Price ranges from the Depot to the Expo are HUGE – anywhere from $150 – $750 linear foot being the norm.
The only reference I got for a local cabinetmaker from a friend was okay. We checked out his work and the prices are fair. I’m still 50/50 on the workmanship. The inside of 2 base cabinets showed HUGE 3+ knots. The plywood seems to be 1/2″ Birch with 9-10 plys.
Can anyone offer any advice when shopping for kitchen cabinets.
Some of the things I look at are the joints, cuts, I like the full extension drawers with all metal hardware – hardwood mounted , drawers slide good, etc.
BTW, if anyone knows of any good cabinet makers in/around Brooklyn-NYC, feel free to email me their contact info 😉
TIA

He's out of commision for awhile - at least 6 months to my understanding. I think his workshop had a fire mishap.
I redid my kitchen with Kraftmaid cabinets in cherry from Home Depot two years ago. I am totally satisfied with the quality. Also, one cabinet door had a mark on it, and one of the drawers was damaged during shipment. HD gave me the 800 number for Kraftmaid which I called. No problem - Just gave them the cabinet part numbers and they shipped replacements free of charge. I had them via UPS five days later. They were great. Being basically old school (cheap) I shopped around. I thought the prices were very reasonable. The finish is honey almond. I liked the idea of buying from HD because of their return policy, just incase there were problems.
