I have a loggia in my house with a EPDM flooring 1.5mm thick. In my case the flooring is Robinia hardwood and it works great. Under the EPDM is 10 cm EPS isolation and under the isolation (on the warm side of the building) is a thick PE foil to avoid condensation.
EPDM can be stressed 300% and is very UV stable. So it depends on the way you lay jour floor on it (without sharp point)

I need to find a way to waterproof a roof balcony that is over living space. The finish material will be 12" limestone tiles, the area is 6' X 14'. The GC wants to treat the area like a shower, which sounds like the right approach. Would an EPDM membrane work well in an application under tile, or should we just hot mop it? Does anyone have any other ideas?

*EPDM...like a shower.J
*Larry, any time I find a roof being used as a floor I count on leaks.Of course from your point of view you have a floor used as a roof!Maybe .060 epdm with something used as a buffer between the tiles and the membrane will work out,if there is provision for a drain, but I would still be nervous. (I once found a flat kitchen roof that had A door from a bedroom open out on to it.The customer had put a weight lifting bench and about 300# of free weights out there and turned it into his home gym.His question was "how come my kitchen ceiling keeps cracking and why is there a brown stain over against this wall" Good Luck, Stephen
*In Stephen's vein, I suppose extra precautions to keep the floor rigid should be taken, beyond what the tile already needs. Also when/if it does leak, how will you be able to repair it?I'd like to do one of these myself -- our setback requirement is already maxed out.
*andrew and stephen,An EPDM roof set on a drain angle and protected with concrete and tile overlay may last for decades and decades...and is very easy to do...Near The Stream,J
*I used Hypsam - now called quickply I believe - and it's been fine. 3' wide rools, goes down like ice and water shield, about 1/8" thick - tough like a very thick innertube material. Just be sure to prime per directions.
