I’ve got a summer cottage on Lake Superior that was build in the ’20’s — 100% cedar except for the floor; cedar bark shingles on the outside of the walls. A lot of its charm comes from the open stud and rafter construction. It currently has a corrugated metal roof over tar paper over the 2X4 rafters and cedar ship lap deck. It is an oven on our few hot days, and, of course, rapidly looses any heat I provide. I’d like to insulate the roof, but don’t want to loose the open rafters. Can I either insulate between the existing corrugated metal and the deck, or add a whole new roof over the one I’ve got, with some insulation between the two?? What kind of insulation? What about a vapor barrier and condensation? Thanks for any help.
