I am building a partition wall to extend an existing wall (it is currently open to the stairs leading down to the basement. See pictures below.
My question is: can I frame the wall up to the existing drywall and stud or do I need to remove the drywall first
So it would be like (from a birdâ€â„¢s eye view):
[ new stud ][ old drywall ][ old stud ]
Thanks, Mischa

so long as the partition wall is a partition wall and not a baring wall there should be no problem with that..check your local codes, if you care, but I have done that tons of times with no visible problems yet..We once rocked this whole house before doing any interior walls at all..the home owner had no clue where he wanted his rooms:)..so all of the interior walls were done like that..We did however attatch the studs directly to the rock unpainted and used adhesive as well...I'd suggest the glue, maybe prime first though depending on what kind of paint is on the existing wall.
All I ever wanted in life was an unfair advantage...
Looks like you have the end of the wall exposed already, so I don't understand the question.
