I have a WHITE 12″ ceramic tile floor in my kitchen, smooth (i.e. VERY slippery when wet!) that I would like to try to paint to look like terra cotta or ANYTHING but white! Is there a surface prep that will work to make the paint stick? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Richie,
I do know that ceramic tile can be painted. My Uncle's house had wall tile that were yellow with a purple border. He had them repainted a beige with a choclate brown border instead.
The people who performed this job were professional painters and they used spray equipment. It turned out very nice, but took several days to do,a lot of fumes and mess to deal with during the process.
As for floors, I don't know how well the paint job would last due to traffic wear.
I would contact professional painters and/or ceramic tile setters concerning your problem.
If your floor area is small (say a 12 X 12 room) it would probably be cheaper in the long run to simply have the tile removed and a new floor installed.
Just a thought.
Davo.
