canned foam, pre-wetting, and R-value

I read that misting the area to be foamed with water makes the canned foam expand more. Tried it and it seems to work. This probably makes it seal better but how does this actually affect the R-value? Does the denser, less expanded foam that you get when you spray into a dry area insulate better or worse? The wet-area foam seems to blow up more and have sizable cavities.

R-value isn't really the point with canned foam. It's mostly about air-sealing.
OSI's quad foam claims an R value of 4.1 to 5. I'm using it to fill some voids and low spots in the 2-part closed cell foam job that I had done by a contractor. It's not ideal but has to be better than air. Or am I totally off base here?
