Okay – single-lever Delta sink (not lav) faucet, not in a place we use it much anymore. Turn it on now, and BAMBAMBAMBAMBAM, as the water pulses on and off.
I’m guessing the internal check valve, that turns the faucet off when the sprayer is pressed, is shuttling back and forth in a frenzy. Sprayer works a little; taking it off to leave a bare hose is no different.
Sometimes the machine gun will clear itself, and flow smoothly fine until you turn it off, or press the sprayer lever.
I put a ball and rebuild kit in the top section because I had one, and it was leaking a tiny bit around the lever. Didn’t change the pulsing.
Before I go buy a new faucet, is there likely a replaceable/fixable valve inside the body of the thing?
Thanks –

When you rebuilt did you not check out the diverter for wear?
It may be the culprit!................Iron Helix
I'll take a crack at this
my toilet in our vacation house did that. After a bit I turned the supply down just a touch. Stopped da noise
Why? I don't know
But I didn't call a plumber either
While you were in there did you remember to lube the gatlin bearings ?
Just because they want to make it personal,
doesn't mean you have to take it personal.
Just watched Man With One Red Shoe again tonight. Kinda sounds like the plumbing in Tom Hank's apartment after the spooks got done with it - turn on the shower and the toilet spits water. Good luck! (Sorry, I'm clueless in this area - by choice!)
Check the shut off valve or for flow restriction.
I had a faucet for a vessle sink that when fully opened quickly would send the stream down , around, and over the far edge of the bowl. I cut back on the shutoff valves to keep the volume down and the faucet started doing that banging you're talking about. Had to open the shutoffs to make it quit.
And they showed that on Ask This old house recently. Guy got tired of water splashing out of the sink, so he turned down the shutoff. Forgot about that when then the faucet started acting up. Solution was to replace the washer type shutoffs with ball valve shutoffs.
Almost certainly the diverter valve. If you don't use the sprayer the simplest fix is to remove the diverter valve piston, though sometimes just soaking all parts in vinegar to remove hard water deposits will do the trick.
I replaced mine because I couldn't get the sprayer to work right. But no machine gun problen, just very little pressure at the sprayer.
Yeah, that's the more common problem when the diverter valve becomes clogged with deposits.

Thanks man - the perverter was the culprit. 2 seconds with Google, part #10. Never comes with a rebuild kit, for some reason, it seems.

Less than $5 at Ace; the replacement Delta part is brass, with an O-ring, rather than just a press-fit plastic body. Sprayer works better than it ever has.
