Hello:
As a constant lurker, but infrequent poster, I am looking for some help. Should be simple.
We are about to put up our block wall foundation. I called out a capillary break between the footer and block wall. My mason is fine with the concept, but said:
1. You pick the product.
2. Block wall starts the day after the footers are poured.
3. As long as we are ready to go at 7:30 AM next day, I have no problems.
So what would be your poduct choice? Specific brand name suggestions would be great.
I am thinking some kind of peel & stick bituthene.
No specific products pop up on the search, here or at JLC.
Thanks…

Bump.
Wow. Kind of like the Google game. If I get no responses do I win a prize?

OK, I'll spoil it with an off-the-wall suggestion.
Assuming you don't have high water table, if you keep the dirt outside the wall dry, you won't need anything. Right? We keep that dirt dry with a poly "umbrella" that extends several feet past the footprint, sloped away from the house. There are other reasons we're doing this, but we have no need to waterproof our underground houses because of it. No CMUs here, but they'd work similarly. Did that once successfully on a very traditional house.
The only time I need waterproofing between footing and wall is for the pool, where I used bentonite ropes. Keeps the water in.
For my money, there is no better waterproofing than bentonite if you have sufficient backfill pressure. Comes in several forms, including rolls you could nail to your walls. Also loose fill for the joint between footing and wall.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
Hmm, maybe my description is bad.
Look at this drawing.

Look at system schematic F-2
I am looking for the product that would go on top of the footing, under the blocks, to stop the inherent ground moisture from wicking up the walls.
Any ideas?
Thanks....

pine....
it's a capillary break.. so .. lots of things will work..
6 mil poly
asphalt foundation or roof sealer
grace ice & water
peel & stick bituthane..
practicaly anything at hand
most of the products can be torn or displaced by the mason..
the asphalt cannot
Mike:
Thanks. I figured just about anything would work, but I did not think about the displacement issue.
Will use some sort of brush on material.
