While quite stylish, I don't think cargo pants lend themselves to a construction enviroment well.
Too many opportunities to snag oneself on a ladder, or scaffolding, or G-forbid, a power tool.

I like plain green military fatigues for work cargo pants. They're cheap and they last a long time. You can usually find 'em in two different weights... the lighter ones stay cooler in the summer. And the rip-stop material is nice for jobsites. Unlike denim, where once a rip starts.....it just keep tearing. Army/Navy stores and online is where I buy them.
Where online do you get your military pants?
I used to buy them at a local surplus store but they are defunct and I do not want to drive to San Antonio.

LOL... go figure, right? Or you can google the brand "Propper". They supply BDU's to the US military but also slap a label on the inside waist band and sell to us civies too. Same pant though....they have the military labels as well as the Propper brand label sewn in them.View Image
Thanks Brian. That was what I needed to know. Skillers etc. is too hot for down here. Feel good in the winter though.
How hot does it get there in July?Thinking about going to watch my son shoot next month, but I don't like heat._______________________________________________________________CITUIS, ALTUIS, FORTUIS
Normally it is in the upper 90s here in Kerrville (July). We are a little cooler than San Antonio because we are a little higher, but only by a couple of degrees. It does get into the 100 range but usually not until August. Is he shooting here in Kerrville?
Back in 2001 it hit 112 Labor Day weekend and yes, you can feel that much difference.
This has been the coolest May that I can remember but we hit 90 in March...strange.

Maybe it's not the heat, it's the humidity. <g>
He's shooting at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center, July 16 - 19.
Rainy weather here in Colorado._______________________________________________________________CITUIS, ALTUIS, FORTUIS
Yep, that is here in K'ville. Humidity will high here too. Dang Gulf.
I think I am going to visit my brother about then (Fresno area of CA), although I have to attend a school in San Antonio before I go.
I picked up a pair of these - the shorts too - at JLCLive and like them alot. The pants have knee pad pockets. Several small pockets for pencils, screwdrivers, etc & larger built-in front pouches that fit into the front pockets when not in use. Good for hardware, tape measure...
They work well and unlike tool belts don't drag down around my arse.

You telling me it's my #### that runs big?

Thanks man; you just got me in trouble. Wife comes down - hears me going "ooh, ah " at the computer thinks I'm looking at porn. She's OK with that as long as it doesn't interfere with her needs. No! She caught me looking at a new tool site...
Man, that's embarassing. Especially when your pants are around your ankles so you can read the size tag lable sewn on the inside.Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

Man I can't beat that s#$% ! Or the sig' line.
I've got a pair of pants coming from them right now, picked up the shorts at the show.
On their brochure, they have a guy wearing a "kilt" style. Same big pouches on the front. I just hope I'm not going up the ladder behind him.Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

I've been looking for some too. I'd like some that I can wear off the jobsite also. Are you ever off the jobsite?
Here's my requirements.
1. ripstop material because i run hot and don't need padding ;^)
2. zip off legs so i can wear them in morning, zip them off when it warms up, and keep going.
3. A wide elastic waistband with some padding so I don't need a belt and when I put my nailbag on it rides on the outside of the wide padded waistband.
4. darker color so it doesn't show dirt as much.
5. cargo pockets for when I don't have my belt on and need to carry things.
Anybody seen one of these? I could put my own waistband in.
pants have always been.....well let's just say my body type rejects pants. they're fine for a while but then the gravity switch gets hit as the guys say. would love to find some elastic pants that were heavy duty.
it's funny that you mention zip off pants. it seems like every year in the early spring i show up with my long underwear with the carharts over them, but the sun comes out and i end up having to lose the overalls.long john tights are probably the most comfortable thing i've worn on the job, not to mention great comic relief. if only they didn't bring on so much ridicule. the guys i work with are not known for their sensitivity.
coming right up peter pan.
I'm still looking for the ideal pants. I don't think I'll find ones with a wide (2"), slightly padded, strong elastic band.
I think I can do the band myself. The trick is to not make it look lik you are wearing some Frankenstein pants. I think I can hide the padded elastic band pretty well if I'm carefull. Besides, my t-shirt covers the waist band.
