After graduating from college and having a white collar job for a number of years, I am strongly considering getting into the trades. I grew up in a blue collar environment (rural), and have always loved building and remodeling, and have done minor remodeling on my own properties off and on, so I have some basic skills. But if I do it as a profession, I want to learn to do it right. I see too many hacks in the business, and I don’t want to be one.
The carpenters union in Chicago has a 4 year apprenticeship program. I’m wondering if this is a good place to learn? Does anyone here have experience or an opinion of these types of union programs?
