I’m installing baseboards before I install carpet. Do I need to raise the baseboards off the floor a little bit for the carpet?

I usually install baseboard 1/2" off the floor, and I've had some builders ask me to use a piece of scrap base for a spacer. This allows the carpet installer to tuck the base under the molding for a nice clean look.

Yes you need to set the baseboard up so that the carpet can be tucked under it.
What kind of carpet are you going to use? Like Rockwell I'll set it up around 1/2" unless I'm using some comercial carpet with a really low pile.

How often do youse guys have probs with the carpet layers scratching the base? I have, many times, and if I can I set base after carpet.
