Carpet/Stair guys – what’s the best way?
Hello,
I had just finished a staircase with the false treads kit, and it was carpeted up the middle after I was done – looks great.
So, I have another client that would like the same job in their entryway stairs – but their staircase are fully carpeted now. I’m thinking that the best way to proceed is to remove all of all the existing carpeting and install the false treads and then install new carpet.
The alternative is to carefully cut the existing carpet to allow the new false treads, but then wouldn;t you have issues with the “tautness” of the carpet?
What’s the best way to proceed here?
Thanks,
Julian

Sounds to me like they would need new treads, can't imagine working around the carpet unless it is a hardwood tread covered by carpet. Make sure you fully understand how that set of stairs is built before quoting a price and digging in.

The old carpet can come out quite easily if not shot on with staples, much easier than trying mess with things. Putting it back in is also quick. In fact with a little coaching and a borrowed knee kicker it's something most finish carps could do themselves. I picked up a knee kicker and haven't used it much, but when it is needed there aren't many things that can take it's place!

But no question that it has to come out first to make way for the false treads insatllation though, right?JT
I'd definitely pull it out first.
