I have been asked to bid on a new deck that the owner would like to park underneath when the job is done. The drive will slope down to the carport from street, thus requiring some sort of drainage. I also wonder if there are special rules regarding the building of the posts given the proximity of the car. . Also the owner wants some kind of under deck drainage, just to redirect the water away from his vehicle. I’m interested in comments from any who have worked with either of these problems.

I have cleint who was looking at same thing. We dicussed rubber membrane under deck, 'Dura deck'., & 'Drysnap' ( a under deck drainage system) but with Ice & snow & $$, we are more inclined to just build garage and attach deck to / over it. Your climate may be less harsh and drainage system under may make more sense. I understand that there will be an article in upcoming Fine Homebuilding about a system.
I have used corrugated fiberglass under decks for drainage with good success.
Dear SledgehammerMay I ask how you attached the corregated panels to each other and too the joists?
Dan
Panels overlap and they make strips for install. Cut PT strips in varing depths installed under joists to make a slope for runoff.
We just build a rubber roof with pitch to drain to a convenient location then cover it with that Ameridrain dimpled plastic stuff and glue down two layers of Hardibacker and run tile or brick over it. works well and resists freezing too.
Alternatively build a rubber roof and cover it with black board and lay a loose paver roof on it. more freeze resistant but the pavers work against each other on the black board and make a little noise and can pinch bare feet as you walk across them so I prefer the glue down solution.
