hello everyone
does anyone have a better way to paint rosettes than with a brush and getting all the paint running to the grove? i have about 25 to paint in my house and they are installed. i thought about masking the walls and windows and spraying them with a hvlp gun. any opinion on this? i am a carpy not a painter so any help please use the simplest terms.
thanks in advance

well Jim, I guess you got your answer.... evidently Nobody has any better suggestions for you. I am also a carpenter, not a painter, I would probably go for the mask and spray idea. Too bad you couldn't have painted them before they were installed.
What's the precise problem ? Are we really talking about "rosettes" ? If you really mean the circular reliefs cut into corner blocks, just paint them over using a pointed Europena trim brush than paint around then using your usual angled trim brush, and you done.

Depends.
If you think that you can handle the situation to your satisfaction with a brush AND your HVLP rig will handle the paint well enough, then you could give that a try. If this is latex paint, it will be a bit more demanding of your skills and your rig.
I presume your rosettes stand proud of the casings a bit. If attempting to spray only the rosettes I would try running some 2" blue tape around each one, then making a cardboard mask with a square cut out to accomdate the rosette...that could simply be hand-held while the spraying took place. This might require something like some open-cell foam weatherstrip is applied to the back side of the rosette opening to insure that there is sealing and that the paint can't sneak thru. Replace this foam strip as necessary or make two making cards and let one dry while you use the other. Alternate them.
I'd also hope/ntend that I would be repainting the wall surface after the fact as it would be pretty easy to cut-in around the outside of the casings after the rosettes are done. If you are going to repaint the walls after the fact, you could likely forego any masking at all.
Not knowing the capabilities of your rig and/or your skills with it, that's about the best I can offer from here. Just don't forget that you can make paint run with a spray gun, too. Just apply too much and there ya go.
Knowledge is power, but only if applied in a timely fashion.
