Well, if it's not big enough, there's always it's big brother the D11. If memory serves correctly, it's about 15% larger than the D10.......
Bob
there's an 11?.

there's an 11?
Yup- check it out on Cat's website. There were a few of them used on huge land development projects when I was in Vegas, but most of them end up in mining operations. I've been across the road from one when it was ripping rock, and I can tell you that the ground literally shakes enough to be scary when that thing sinks it's ripper tooth into the ground and starts to move.
Bob
THAT is BIG........

yup...
there's two up at the Victor mines near here...
they are larger than huge...
did I mention giganic...

The Caterpillar D-11 series of tracked-type tractors are among the largest conventional bulldozers in the world, second to Komatsu D575. It comes in two model variations: the standard D11R and the heavier D11R CD.
The D-11 is in the upper end of Caterpillar's track-type tractors, which range in power and size from the D3 with 57 kW (77 hp) of gross power and an operating weight of 8 metric tons, to the D11R CD at 698 kW (935 hp) and 113 metric tons.
D-11s are primarily used for moving large quantities of material (dirt, rock, aggregate, etc.) short distances in relatively confined places. For example, they are often used in quarries. The size, price, power and weight of the larger track-type tractors dictate that they are used primarily for major projects. The D-11 is most commonly found in use in forestry, mining, and quarry operations.
The D-11s are also highly favored for their tremendous power and their ability to rip the earth. They are often used for agricultural and rock ripping. The ripper is the long claw-like device on the back of the tractor. Rippers can come singly (single shank) or in groups or two or more (multi shank rippers). Usually, a single shank is preferred for heavy ripping.
Ripping rock allows the ground surface rock to be broken into small, easy to handle and transport rubble which can then be removed so that grading can take place.
Agricultural ripping allows rocky or very hard earth to be broken up so that otherwise unarable land can be put to use in agricultural applications. For example, much of the very best land in the California wine country consists of old lava flows. Put the D-11 to work and the lava is shattered allowing practical agriculture for the wine industry. In another example, hard earth can be ripped and decompacted to allow the planting of orchards which otherwise could not grow on the land.
The dozer blade on front of the tractor usually comes in 3 varieties:
A Straight Blade ("S-Blade") which is short and has no lateral curve, no side wings, and can be used for fine grading.
A Universal Blade ("U-Blade") which is tall and very curved, and has large side wings to carry more material.
A "S-U" combination blade which is shorter, has less curvature, and smaller side wings.
The nearest direct competitor to the Caterpillar D-11 is the Komatsu D-475. The Cat can be distinguished from the Komatsu by the elevated drive sprocket or "High Drive" system which results in a triangular, rather than oval, shaped caterpillar track.

What kind of hole can ya dig with it?
Well, the kind of hole that is made when the space shuttle falls off the platform.
And that monster German trench digger...what in the heck would you use that for? A quick trench in one place. I mean, would it be cost effective to ship it from Hamburg to Salzburg just to dig a deep trench? It would be cheaper to hire 10,000 immigrants from the middle east and give them each a shovel. I mean....look at the pyramids.
BruceM
If you are referring to the pic I posted, when you say "monster german trench digger"...It's not a trench digger. It's used for strip/surface mining.=0)And it makes it's holes deliberatly. Not by accident.;o)

Well, for dimension, the CTs are impressive. Not much of a ride, though, even empty when they can hit their top speed of around 1.5 mph (yeah, the specs say 2, but the drivers aren't allowed to go that fast, lest it make "ruts" in the roadbed--which is about 6' of different graded gravel surfaces).
An M-9 ACE or CEV seems a bit more exciting to tool about in, really; if much smaller.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
Holy crap! I want one.

Blocks the size of a small car.
Think of how fast you could clear the snow from your driveway with that. And after you did it, you'd have the added benefit of a much wider driveway.

Well, you could just use a Komatsu 575A2 for that, and remove the neighbor's houses at the same time, so your yard is bigger too. A partial load in a Liebherr T1 and all of the mess is gone. While you're on your way to the dump in the T1, make sure you don't run over any schools or gas stations.
I talked with the oper. said he needs a feather touch with that blade or he starts digging ruts and the engine is just above idle.

I'm waiting till it comes out in a hybrid.
I ran a D9 for a few hours once. I had been running an ancient D7 and got a shot at a brand new D9 That thing was awsome!! Automatic tranny and all hydraulic controls. No strength required - do everything with your fingertips. It felt like you could move the world. - lol
I ran a D9....briefly.... when I was attached to the Engineers in the service, it rocked , literally.

think we can get Cat to wrap a tractor around that???

Do you know if they make it in a turbo version?
It is a two stroke turbocharged diesel (first sentence or two of the website). Too bad there isn't a pic of the "right" side. Looking at the cross section drawing, that is where the turbos are.
sorry missed that. long day. thanks.
Cat has got to wrap a tractor around that...
