Cedar Breather over Foam w/ Shingles
I am applying foam over the sheathing in order to have a thermal break and the unfortunate part is that we are siding with cedar shingles. Any insight on the detail for this? Currently the Architect has specified 1-1/2″ foam and cedar breather then shingles. I believe we will need to strap the building.

Are you sure you want the foam on the outside of your wall assembly in somewhere as cold as Vermont. I know there is a lot of debate about it, but my understanding is that the consensus is that foam is best applied to the exterior in climates that are warm and moist. In cold climates, foam on the exterior can act as a moisture barrier impeding the walls ability to breath and dry to the outside.
