I am planning on installing new 18″ perfections on our renovation of a mixed use property. It has been a long time since i had to install a large amount of these but i do remember getting a little impatient with the difficulty of using the 1-3/4″ long ring shank nails that i used (and most people in our area use). I had once used a staple gun years ago to do a portion of my house and they are still hanging with now problems(atleast 15 years ago). I was going into the old 3/4 X 12 knotty planking and was pulling my hair out trying to send the ring shank nails into the substrate.
This job has 1/2″ Fur CDX installed over 1″ planks that are atleast 125 years old., (very soft). Is there any other method of fastening cedar shake in order to speed my installation process?? Unfortunately, time is going to be an issue and i just may need to abort the mission on the sides and use a different material if it takes to long to do the front.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated??
