Re-butted and Re-squaredHello all,
Not trying to be tacky or inconsiderate but here’s my question:
Trying to decide whether to use Red Cedar claps or White Cedar shakes (5″ exposure) on my new garage. This a project I’d normally do myself but just don’t have the time. I have a rough idea of what the labor cost is to to side this garage with clapboards would be, but no clue regarding shakes. Could anyone just give me a ballpark number for northern new england for 13 squares. Shakes would be R&R and there are corner boards. Also, I’d expect actual Americans to do the job!

your nomenclature is a little confusing....
i understand the red cedar clapboards....
but i think the "shakes " are really shingles..
and although, you can now get white cedar shingles as R&R ( resquared and rebutted )
this usually describes a red cedar shingle
anyways.... you won't go wrong if you figure 1/2 sq / man/day for everything
Mike, R&R is Maibec white
Mike, R&R is Maibec white cedar shingles too
Re-butted and Re-squared at 5" exposure is cedar shingles, NOT shakes.
I expect a guy can generally get one square per day laid at ground level. Go up two stories, or have a lot of windows and corners and iot slows down
