Have not bid one for a while and it really is all over the map as some guys are out of work or nearly so, but around 4-600/square

It's easier to do a roof than a wall by a long shot.Man will average a square a day on a wall. he describes lot of staging and deifficult access, so you'd be luicky to get a square any one day, but average with cleanup work and setting up staging, and stock ing the shingles up there... You want to make three bills a day at least, don't you?

I doubt this area would support that cost. Possibly why sidewall shingles are not too common here.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

That's not something that's easy to answer.. It depends is really a valid answer.. site location, time of the year, terrain, speed required, Hand nailed or gun nailed, etc..
Numbers here in the midwest mean nothing out east or out west..
Frenchy, if you look at his profile, he is in Maine, that is why I bumped Piffin

Rich and poor????
pretty much, yeah.South end of state and a string up to here along the coast is higher pricing because of all the transplants from Mass, and NH moving north. it affects the politics of the state immensely too, to the point that "Two Maines" is a well understood phrase here, and some up north have advocated splitting the state in half.

A guy went around bidding 150 a sq labor.
Either he was really fast.
Worked really cheap.
Was really stupid..
I happened to work next to a new house he was siding, He was slower then most anyone, Looked pretty stupid and started other jobs and left them all in different stages of undone.
The Builders proudly proclaimed 150 was the going rate from then on oblivious to the fact there houses were not getting done.
A dozen years ago, I was doing cedars on a building on an estate here, 2-1/2 stories tall with lots of windows and dormers. Forget what I was charging back then, but the owner had a pumphouse/shed right across the driveway that needed new cedars too. They hired a handyman because his $10/hr rate *sounded* a lot cheaper. He was so slow, it cost them twice my piece rate, AND he threw in a sloppy 'look' for free.;)

sidewall.......
i used to listen to a lot of different guys tell me what their production rate was.. most would talk about a sq-a-man-a-day.... i figgered they must know..
but after i started keeping records..
setup...staging.... installation....breakdown and cleanup.... i never averaged higher than 1/2 sq /day....
so that's our production rateMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Young man, I'll have you know, that back when I was young and good looking and could leap buildings in a single bound....

Thanks for confirming fears. I had figured 1 square per day avg and added a few days to be safe. I don't remember ever burning through more than 3 or 4 bundles in a day though it sure seems like it's possible. The HO shot my bid of $350/ sq. down so it doesn't matter anyway. I've heard $300-400 per sq as a going rate round here.
