A friend asked my advice about ceiling fans. What brand to buy, are there differences in quality (i.e. balance, noise)? Not sure what to say. I have installed one Hampton Bay in my life. It was a bitch to balance and makes too much noise for my taste.
Has anyone every seen a survey or test of ceiling fans? Any opinions?

I always buy Hunter, always dead quiet, last one needed no balancing (just a slight tick in the pullchain on high speed).
Oh yeah, they cost more than most others, imagine that, I get what I pay for.

*I did think Hunter was the way to go until I started installing less and less expensive brands...Well, they all either balance or don't for me and have had no noise...The noise many times comes from your switch by the way....Cange switches to a noiseless switch if needed or just try a diferent brand. The quietest bath fan I have installed cost $19!!!near the stream, not messing with oil filling Hunters unless the customer asks for it,ajI forgot that I have had to repair two Hunters too!...Both cost more to repair than the cost of several inexpensive brands...So they're good but not perfect in my eyes.
