I want to raise the ceiling in an old office addition. There is currently a dropped ceiling below a 4/12 shed roof. Problem is the roof joists are mere 2×4’s. I want to end up with a sloped ceiling following the roof line, and install a couple skylights. I know I need to beef up the joists with at least 2 x 6 sisters, but is that enough for insualating purposes in Pennsylvania? Any other advice appreciated.

To get R-30, you need at least 12" with standard fiberglass. I think the issue is not one of structure but one of insulation.
*Not only a insulation problem which can be solved with Hi-R etc. But how about the span of these rafters? This sounds quite underdesigned. Steve
