I am putting a 20×20 family room addition onto our house that currently has 8′ ceilings. I was going to make the addition 9′ so I could do a coffered ceiling. I am now hesitant because of the facia baords not meeting on the outside and we dont want a step down into the room. Would you suggest two faux wood beams going down the ceiling or ignore the facia boards not lining up. Should I be concerend about having a different ceiling height than the rest of the 60 year old house?

You could still line up the fascias and use scissors trusses on the addition. That way you could still have a coffered ceiling. (There may even be a special truss for coffered ceilings, with the bottom chord stepped up a foot, but I would think you could ask the manufacturer about just putting extra members across at the nine foot level to attach your drywall to.)
Lot of ways to skin this cat, but would need all the details/plans to figure out the best answer

Thanks for your interest.
The addition is going off a kitchen on the back of our house. We plan on doing a flush transition ceiling with the lvl buried in the ceiling joists, so there would be a step up in the ceiling between the 8' kitchen and the 9' family room. That way I could do the coffered ceiling on all four sides. Above the addition is going to be attic space with the new hvac system.
Let me know what other info you might need.
Take your plans with desired elevations (inside and outside) to your truss supplier. they will likely give you a raised heel design with a elevated bottm cord. Be sure to give them your plan to use the attic space for storage and HVAC.
Maybe Boss Hog will come along and give you a better idea of what can be done with trusses.

EverythingFlor plan, layout, roof pitch, overhand, dtailing of existing framing, trusses.I tend to doubt I could design this for you with verbal information alone.Changing pirch and overhang can change where fascia meets generally
