I know this has been discussed before, but I did a search and did not find what I was looking for.
What is the best way to carry my cell phone so that I don’t push buttons and protect the phone at the same time.
Thanks for any help I get.

I'm gonna watch this thread and see if anyone has figured it out - 'cause I sure haven't. - lol
I use clamshell style phones and carry them in a holster that clips to my belt or pocket. I like them just fine but almost never manage to get one out and open without mashing at least two of the buttons on the sides which has them doing all kinds of weird things. - lol
Yeah, I can't for the life of me understand why they'd put buttons on the outside like that that can do things while the unit is closed. My previous phone had one that, if pressed while closed, would hang up. About one call in ten would get disconnected while I was fumbling to get the phone out.
A strong nation, like a strong person, can afford to be gentle, firm, thoughtful, and restrained. It can afford to extend a helping hand to others. It's a weak nation, like a weak person, that must behave with bluster and boasting and rashness and other signs of insecurity. --Jimmy Carter
one drop of super glue will disable those buttons...

LOL, on the side buttons - I had a call while setting tile the other day.Because of cold water out where I had the wet saw cutting, my fingers were a bit numb as I tried to answer one. I got it open half an inch and it popped back closed again. Oh well.

I've got the Casio GZone. Waterproof, bombproof, drove me up the wall...
...Until I squirted some Crazy Glue into the side buttons that consistently muted my phone ringer while it was bouncing around in my pocket!
I lost a couple of functions, but I don't miss calls anymore.

I don't know what the 'best' way is, but I always get a phone with flip top to avoid that, and generally carry it in breast pocket or wear a vest with a special cell pocket higher near shoulder. This keeps it nearer my ear to hear it ring too in the noise of the job, but it is out of the way of tools bumping it.

I have a slide phone. Same advantages as a flip phone (keyboard is locked when closed), but a little easier to open one-handed.
I keep it in my pants pocket with the screen facing in.

Man am I glad to hear I am not the only one to have this problem.I have tried several phones and cases. One of these days I will find the right combo.Russell
Bet an Otter Box phone cover/case.
It makes your phone sort of armor plated.
I won't be laughing at the lies when I'm gone,

The Casio GZone is pretty bombproof right out of the box -- drop it, throw it..... or toss it in the pool!I also like the big loop at the top -- I keep a 'biner clipped through it so that I can keep it attached to a belt loop. And if I want to keep working while I talk, I put it on speaker and clip it to the neck of my shirt -- low-tech Bluetooth!AitchKay
Clip it to your ear and you have a great handsfree unit that you won't get a ticket for using while driving!

I'm with you. The phone is for my convenience..............don't feel the need to be tethered, or the need to answer every call as it comes in.I remember the first phone I ever had. From At&T. Hardwired into the truck. A bunch of us contractors got together and got a deal.....$995.00 installed, $38.00/month......and .38 a minute. It could be set for the truck horn to beep when a call came in if your truck was parked. We all worked in the same cul de sac, and when we heard a horn beep we all would run to our trucks. No more of that! Rod
LOL...I remember the "run to the truck guys". I waited till they got bag phones. I coulda did the horn thing with that too but wisely opted not too. I had that old phone for a very long time. Everyone was making fun of me. I used to see Hispanic concrete laborers with their tiny cells and I got jealous.http://thewoodshedtavern.com. = no peer mods!
I use those belt clips where the phone snaps in with the buttons facing into the clip and are protected. I clip that on a pouch on my tool belt. Works pretty decent but I guess that style of clip would have to be made for your phone. Currently I've got a Motorola i335. Dieing to get away from Sprint/Nextel and get down with Verizon though.
Our area company - Unicel - was bought by Verizon and I am aching for the chance to fire the fools. Bill went up 25%, the phone sux, and coverage is worse.
I am constantly reminded that 30 years ago Lily Tomlin told us that the phone company was our enemy. Much has changed since those days, but Ms Tomlin is still spot-on with that one.
Verison so far for us has been cheaper with more options and better coverage than our old carrier.I hated the process of finding what phone, what calling options and what price. They just do not make it easy.Good thing I have 2 daughters in their 20's to help me and wife out with all this technology.Russell

Just engage the automatic keyoard lock! All of them have it. It will automatically lock after ~30 seconds; unlock with the sequential press of two keys (or manually lock the same way). You can still answer without unlocking.
A holster's just another thing to lose; a flip-phone is just another part to break. I've carried my last three non-flip-phones just naked (the phone) in my right front pocket - no muss, no fuss.
Forrest
Hey Forest,
You stole my Post!
I have become habitual with the keypad lock. I am using a blackberry with a magnetic case that negates the need to lock off the phone but I still always lock it.
On a hill by the harbour
I bought this cell phone holder from harbor freight, $2. it one of those that has five pockets for everything. Cut all that #### off of it and its a good holder, when I can remember to take the radio out of the truck. I bought five of them for ten dollars. mine not a flip phone, its the nextel radio, i think i350
Your solution seems so elegant. My problem would be getting the phone out of my front pocket while driving. Before I got my little holster, I used to fight to get it out and by the time I got it out, they hung up on me. I'm doing the flip phone in a holster that is clipped to my belt. My life has improved dramatically since I've adopted this style.http://thewoodshedtavern.com. = no peer mods!

Thigh pocket of my work pants (Blaklader) can't have pencils next to it tho or it will complain.
Only problem with is there are so many pockets I can't find it in time to answer it. :)Russell
I have a flip phone which I fold over the collar of my tee shirt. It's out of the way of the work zone of my hands, not getting sat on, torn off or crushed between my hip and studs doorway or equipment, it's not getting buttons pushed or filled with sand while in my pocket with the fifteen other items in there. It's under my chin close to my ears where I can hear it and with the vibration on, in a sensitive enough area of skin for me to notice it when running other machinery. And always easy to reach. - r
Leave the cell on a table nearby. It emits radiation, you'll feel it eventually. Environmental Working Group did an expose on the traces absorbed by different phones' emissions, and a good chiropractor can show you how your arm strength is affected immediately (and not too insignificantly) from simply wearing a watch or holding a phone in your hand. Until all is settled about complete radiation safety, I set mine down...
Thats very interesting. I'm going to take mine off my right hip. For some reason, my right knee is getting stiff. I've never had an injury and I didn't start wearing the phone on my hip till this year. Do you think it is possible that they are related?http://thewoodshedtavern.com. = no peer mods!
I wear my phone on my right hip and my left knee hurts. But then it's hurt off and on since I was 14.There are reasons (controversial) to be concerned about cell phone radiation in terms of cancer and the like, but there's never been any evidence that it can cause muscle weakness. Nor can a watch.

Plantronics earpiece - works great. I answered the phone the other day lying on my stomach with my head and hands down in a wet sump in the back yard.

Leave it in your pocket and use a blue tooth earpiece.

Love those flip phones."One to beam up, Scotty".Wish I could find a ringtone with the communicator sound...It's all fun and games, until someone puts an eye out..You are always welcome at Quittintime
I found a small zippered pouch that fits my phone perfectly, I think it really is for a camera. Keeps dust out and no accidental pushing of buttons, usually keep it in my front pocket or now that cold weather is here I put it in my jacket pocket. If working inside I put it on a window sill or someplace.
>>dont you love them people in the supermarket talking to themselves<<um, that would be me...
That has it's place.Russell
What model phone you using?
I've got the Blackberry Curve. Keep it in the Otter Box for protection during the work week.
I disabled the buttons on the sides so as to avoid the mishaps. I would imagine most phones have such a feature, no?

I have a samsung intensity.Got the locking thing figured out so that should help.Russell
My LG doesn't have a way to lock out the external buttons, save for locking the entire phone. (And I'm not even sure that that will lock the external buttons.) And if you lock the phone you have to unlock it to answer it.

So far the locking system on this seems to work ok. Maybe just getting used to it.Russell
