Cellulose insulation hand-poured?
I have a couple sections of wall to insulate. Construction is balloon-framing with lath and plaster. Loose-fill seems to be my only option. I don’t want to rent a blower $85/day for a couple of bags of insulation. How well does hand-poured work? And what is the best way to make sure its consistant? I’m getting RSI – .024/mm R – 3.4/in. for poured and 3.6/in for blown – is that a big difference? Also reading they will both eventually settle …so again what is the advantage for renting the machine? Thanks.

My experience is that it's not worth renting a blower for a few bags. I've just broken up the bag into a garbage can and scooped it in. Bang on the wall to encourage settlement, if your plaster can handle it, and come back in a couple of days for a top up. If you have access you can press the fill down directly, though if it's a tall wall you want to be careful not to create a plug near the top. I've partly taken apart a wall I had hand filled and found good and consistent compaction.
Yeah, what Cooper said. Jam in the stuff as much as you can. It won't be perfect, certainly, but should be more than satisfactory.
Mainly you want to avoid having any voids.
