Cellulose or Fiber Glass???
I will be insulating the ceiling of the house we are restoring with R38. My choices of insulation are: Cellulose or Fiber Glass, both blown. Any reason to go/no go with either one?
Thanks for your comments,
Harold

cellulose will maintain it's r-value as the temp drops..
you will have less air movement thru it than FG
i've often found mice and vermin making nests in FG , never in Cellulose
i'd rather work with cellulose than FG
If you want a good education on this topic, use the "Advanced Search" function and use "fiberglass cellulose" as key words. Volumes.
If you're not going to go the foam route or have lots of space to pack, dense-pack cellulose is the next best thing. No infiltration, pretty burn and vermin-proof, inexpensive.
Like Mike said, fiberglass lets air flow thru it. Fiberglass was invented to be an airfilter material.
Cellulose blocks the airflow, plus it blocks radiant heat gain from the attic, helping to keep your house cooler in summer.
hey, Phil... thought you checked out..

Hi Mike
I've been a lurker most of 2005 with occasional Q & A. I've got an 8 month old daughter that keeps me busy. I do not know where the time goes anymore!
Nice to be missed tho!
Phil
