Hi everyone. I’m in the process of redoing my shower. It was previously tiled, but on greenboard. I’m now installing cement backerboard. Where is the best place to butt the cementboard to the greenboard? Would it be where the shower door frame will attach to the shower wall? The wall will be flush, and the door frame will mount directly to the wall stud. Or would it be better to run the cementboard beyond the shower door frame and end it just shy of the tile? Or is there a different way to do this? If the cementboard goes beyond the tile, then how do you join the cementboard to the greenboard? Would I need to make sure there is a stud where they meet or can I use clips to join the two different materials? I appreciate everyone’s input, and thanks in advance!

In a perfect world the backer board and drywall meet exactly in the middle of the trim tile ... ie ... the last row of tile ... usually a bullnose.
mesh tape it ... very think coat of thinset.
don't be afraid to feather the thinset out onto the drywall ... it sand decent ...
and if it is too rough .... a skim coat of durobond from the edge of that trim tile and out over the drywall smooths everything out and takes paint great.

Pretty much like Jeff... I install the sheetrock so that it goes 1" behind the last tile course. If at all possible, prime and paint the sheetrock before installing the tile. Then mask off the paint and caulk the back of the tile to the sheetrock. Pull the tape and get paid.
You need solid blocking behind the CBU-sheetrock joint, no clips.
Ditto Jeff's post.
