I’ve got a question here ,does the muffler that is installed to reduce sound be put on the inlet side or the exhaust? I see in 2 different instruction books that it goes on either one any ideas here?

Exhaust. You don't want to run all the debris through/past the foam in the muffler.
Don't use the muffler if the discharge is in a location where the sound does not bother anyone.
