Lowes shopvac switch went out.
Pain in the butt to get to.
Those dork screw heads…er.. I mean tork or is it torx. Gotta have a freakin’ arsenal of tools just to fix a switch.
So I get it down to barebones and go to lowes to order the butterfly switch and a half hour later the poor woman tells me they can’t sell just the switch but the whole housing the switch sets in. Ya, right. I’ll drill a hole and put in a generic then, thanks.
So I drag out the old trusty screamin’ Crapsman Vac. Same gallon size and peak HP.
Thing is so much better than the Lowes. Remarkably so.
Friggin’ switch. Never saw that much use anyhow. Lowes Shopvacs might look purty but are junk.
Now you know, the rest of the story.

Got a Crapsman and a Ridgid.
The Crapsman dates back over 10 years and still goin' strong. The Ridgid is smaller so I can haul it around easier. Both didn't cost much. Both work great.
So are you saying the Lowes vac sucks? Or doesn't suck? I'm confused. ;-)

Just twist the wires together with a wirenut.
Be not needing a stinking switch.
Don't want black marks on the receptacles.

Wire a switch into the cord?
That'd work.View Image

I've had Shopvac send me THREE replacement "power heads' for mine, each time on their dime. They won't sell you a switch, the whole unit is basically a throwaway. The power switch died again last month so I just bought another filter for the tinnitus-inducing Craftsman and decided to live with the crappy hose connect and lousy casters.
Here's my hearing cure for the screamer.
Elegant solution! I like the way you think...
