Seems the Amish may be the subject matter for the day.
My buddy is looking at a shell “cabin” to be built on his property in TN by the Amish.
They come in, put up the basic cabin complete with siding and roofing and he will finish the rest out (thats his arrangement anyways).
Below is a pic of the cabin model he chose.
1) Why are the studs cut on an angle?
2) Are those headers suffice
3)Whats that PT across the middle for? Is it just something temporary?

1) If you need to cut the studs to length, it is easier to cut them at the roof angle than cut birdsmouths in the rafters.
2) It may be for anything...
A La Carte Government funding... the real democracy.
1) because you can't modify the truss
2) I'm no engineer but for a roof load that small I would guess it's fine.
3)the PT looks temporary
4) one thing don't like is that they didn't us a double top plate nor did they put the trusses directly over the studs. Even on a small cabin or shed I would do one or the other. I would also probably up the lumber sizes so I could get more insulation. In a small structure, framed on 24" oc the extra cost would be minimal.

4) yeah I saw that, they did a double bottom plate. He didn't have his good camera on him to get alot of pics (he used cell camera). I'd like to see more pics too-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Easier to cut studs at an angle than a birdsmouth, but did they cut the face of the plate so the exterior sheathing can be nailed flush?
2)I have seen a lot of old houses with flat 2 X 4 headers, never seen a sagging one. Just install a full sheet of drywall and cut out the window opening, so there will be no joints around the window.
3) Temporary, may have held up the wall before the roof joists were installed.

Haven't you seen the picture of the Amish carrying a barn down the road?
That's the handle, little cabin like this only takes one big Amish on each side to deliver it.

Joe be funny!!!!!!!>G<
my guess on the angled stud tops is to give a pitch to the top plat so they don't need to cut birdsmouths into the rafters

I worked in an area where there were a lot of Amish stuff. Personally I think their craftsmanship is over rated. They do good work but not great work.

There's Amish craftsmen, and there's Amish looking to make a buck off the English, and I'm sure there's some in between... and that piece of pt is for hanging leaf terbaccyhttp://www.tvwsolar.com

I chew WOLF long cut mint. 2 bucks a can. I couldn't afford ceegar shaded wrapper leaf.
You cut birdmouths in trusses? Truss roof, they used angle cut studs instead of a taper cut top plate
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
Not crazy about the headers but i do like the angled top plate. Birdmouths are a pain to cut.
I think the trusses are 24oc and the walls at 16oc so they wouldnt line up anyway.
Family.....They're always there when they need you.
I like the angle cut on the studs too. But it would complicate things when you put a double top plate on. If you made the plates flush with inside and outside walls, they would be offset on the other plate. It would make a lousy nailing surface. You get out of life what you put into it......minus taxes.

Perhaps what you say is correct,
for mere mortals like you and me,
But were talking about the Amish here, remember?:>)

Single top plate ... and what the hell is going on with the framing at the windows?
Jeff
i guess since gable end they saw no need for king/jack/header, so just framed single studs around the window, and the short pieces on the sides are blocking for trim.
just a guess.Rich
Nope... don't like It one bit.
Angle wall plate under weight causes failure of entire structure.
Trusses not aligned with studs is bad enough... but no double, yikes, jump on the roof and I bet is springs like a diving board.
