rim joist become the end joist on a 91″-radius curve on a simple, 14’X16′ deck? My mind has been relentlessly tortured by this seemingly innocent, perhaps unanswerable, question to the point where I drool a lot now and have been mentally unable to pour my footings over the last several days. Please save my sanity (and put me back to work.)
Thanks.

Bob:
I had a feeling you'd come to my rescue --- thanks for the great pics! (Actually, I've downloaded many of your photos/messages and even have a folder on my PC named "Pro-Dek", a credit to your fine craftsmanship, sound advice, and generosity with your time.) Thanks again.

PS: Trying to avoid a repeat of the attached. Neighbor/"handyman" put in this deck about 17 years ago. Funny, the boards on top didn't look too bad...
Bob, looked at your attachments. Nice job! Avon.
Yeah, Bob, sweet. What's with all the "fat" wood though? Did you tear down a turn-of-the-century barn or something? Also, is that Ipe' on top?
BY "fat wood" I guess you are talking about the beams.
We take a lot for granted here in the Northwest.
We can go to the lumber yard and buy 4x 6/8/10/and 12's up to 20' long.
The other "fat wood would be 5/4" X 12" fascia. It takes a big tree to still get that.
The decking in the pictures is Trex.
The bench supports are treated 3x12 that were painted before we installed them."Rather be a hammer than a nail"

Dear Flash, I would say that the rim joist never becomes the end joist. At the point that the curving end joist finishes its curce and butts up to the rim joist, it becomes the rim joist. Get to work. Avon @ Witty Inventions.
Edit: by the way, this is assuming that by "rim joist" you mean "fascia" and it is perpendicular to the other joists. Otherwise, the rim and end joists would be the same. Is this a trick question? {:X

"Get to work."
I'm gonna go get the halogen work light out of my truck right now. Crap, better feed the cats first --- it has been a couple days...
Thanks for your explanation. Should've posted this question when I first realized it was affecting my daily life.

PS: What's "Witty Inventions" all about?
Witty Inventions was supposed to be my dream career of building Victorian playhouses. But as happens to many of us, work got in the way and I just never got time between cabinetry and finish carpentry to build my first one, not even for my kids. Now I have grandkids and the pressure is on! Guess I'll have to retire so I can get on with it. By the way, Proverbs 8:12 says: "I wisdom dwell with prudence and find knowledge of witty inventions." But only in King James. Avon.

It sounded familiar. Thanks for the source.

Just don't wait to retire until you have great-grandkids!
