Hello to all,
I would like some help in deciding what type of material I should use for the top of a child’s picnic table. I have four metal frames, that need to be stripped and painted, that will support the top.
I thought about cedar, redwood, or even trex. The table will only be 4′ long and 18′ wide.
Thanks in advance, K-boy

I would use trex. Redwood and cedar is just too soft. Redwood splinters easily and are poisonous.
Trex can get very hot in the sun, but might be a good choice. Cedar and redwood hold up well, but the splinters can be kind of nasty, but if you're willing to sand periodically, they'd be okay. I'd lean toward cedar, I think. Or you could use SPF 2x lumber, and either paint it or recognize that it'll need to be replaced every so often.
