Hello all.
I’ve got a cinderblock fireplace in middle of my pad. I’m building roof over pad with steel trusses and 2×6 purlins. My question is should I attach the purlins to chimney or just frame around it and attach purlins that way? It’s roughly 20’ tall and 32”x24” in size. (Chimney)
Any thoughts would be appreciative.

I'm not a code expert but the chimneys I've seen were not attached directly to framing. See article.
I was taught that chimneys and framing were separate and distinct components of a house and should never touch.

Right. My other question would be since I’m using a metal roof would I just bring it tight against chimney and set my flashing over top of it without fastening but fasten to chimney?
Roof goes close to chimney. Flashing fastened/ tucked to chimney, overlaying roofing.

Just saw your post. Can’t really tell how the chimney is placed on your roof. If it’s thru the ridge then the following suggestion would not be needed but you would still need to flash and counter flash the chimney. See 903.2.2 regarding the crickets & saddles.
