I am building a house with brick chimney that goes up the outside wall. What would be the best way to flash where the siding buts up to the brick?

What kind of siding?
Hardiplank siding, 5" exposure
a modified step flash with sheet lead.. folded into an inside corner.. one for each two courses of brick which should wind up hidden behind each course of Hardi..Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Can anyone recommend a book or point towards an article that covers this detail? The reason that I'm having trouble with this is that any old house I've ever had used no flashing at this point and just relied on a wide roof overhang, and any new house I've seen has a chimney framed of wood, then covered with a brick veneer, so this detail isn't neccessary.
