I do not get gifts for Christmas, but will find something that fits the customer when finished with a large remodel-Kitchen, whole house remodel, maybe a large deck....
Only one client gets a gift, and that's because he has become a best friend, in addition to a valued customer. All others receive a holiday card (with my business card inserted.)
The ones I'm working for now.
The ones I'm working for now. I got the lady a break-away knife(mainly because I was tired of lending her one to recycle their cardboard). The husband a siphon kerosene pump because he loves to cook, but has multiple gallons of oil sitting in two containers that are filled to the brim in their garage(picture driving down the road with that in the back of your truck,or suv in their case, PS without tops). I've been recycling our gallon milk jugs to the cause, so by the time the kitchen tiling job is done they ought to be able to drive into the garage again.

Give the guy with the oil a couple of five gallon pails from the painter or the muriatic jug from the mason.
Sorry, I didn't mean give
Sorry, I didn't mean give them as a Christmas Gift. Just help the guy out.
I just started giving cards & gifts this year.
I confirmed 2 new jobs while doing it!
Went to one house of a lady and her husband who works away. Asked if he would be home for Christmas, she tells me they getting a divorce!!! Awkward. Lol
Not sure next year if I should give the old jobs cards and get the 2010 jobs cards & gifts or what.

cj, If gifts are from the heart or a way of saying thanks, that's very nice. And not to belittle it in any way.....
But it is also a marketing tactic. You want them to remember you.
The card will do it briefly and with the volume of cards coming in, probably only briefly. But something nice thoughtful and really geared to the client will remind them for quite a while. It takes some thought, but the ladies of the house that think it's sweet are yours forever.
For example, I rcvd a call last week from a customer. Did their Kitchen a couple yrs ago. She wanted to know where I got a small blown glass wall hanging bud vase that I got for them when I finished the job. I included a silk flower in it. I cared not whether they put it up in the kitchen, but the color complemented it if they did. At any rate, there's a shelving unit she wishes in their den now........
Then there's all that area in between that certainly doesn't hurt. Gift card to a restaurant etc. The key is that they remember.
Forever.
