Hey all, we have successfully eliminated almost all traces of cigarette smoke in our new house…except in the cedar sauna. It is located in the sunroom where the majority of smoking took place, and apparantly, the former chainsmokers left the door open while they stunk up the sunroom.
Short of busting out the sander, which I would really prefer not to do, are there any products/techniques that can remove or neutralize the cigarette smoke?
The cedar is unfinished. Thanks.

Clean it with a stiff nylon brush and TSP. (The hot water is a given...)

Luka gave you a good solution.. If there still is an odor seal it off with shellac..
I thought one of the reasons for making the sauna out of cedar is to have a nice smell while you cook. Sealing it with shellac would seem to be less than ideal. If it were me, and the TSP didn't work, I'd be looking for other was to remove, not isolate, the cigarette odor.Rebeccah
frenchy and shellac are like james dobson and morality, a totally confused relationship.I'll sand before I shellac.
I've had great luck with this product.

It will melt smoke and soot stains off of paneling, brick and sheetrock. How it will work for rough cut, porous cedar I have no idea. But at a couple bucks a gallon you can't go wrong giving it a try.
unfinished cedar ...
who purpose to to sand every now and then to get the smell back.
palm sander ... how long can it take?

+1. I agree, first, easiest, least impacting thing to try.
