Hi all – I am looking for a clawfoot tub, hopefully 6 ft, in fairly good condition and under $1,000. Anyone have any resource recommendations they could share with me?
Many thanks,
Dee

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

I don't know about New England, but here in Alabama, we just kept looking for someone remodeling their house & had a tub sitting in the yard (cost us $35.00). When we lived in Washington, we bought a farmer a new, galvanized horse watering trough in exchange for the 6-ft. clawfoot used in his pasture. Be patient, the farther from the cities, the less expensive the tubs.
Good Luck
Ray - WOW! Wish I could find one here for $35!! I do have a farm up the road with tubs in the pasture. I will have to sneak out there amongst the cattle and measure them. I think they are all short. My husband and I are both fairly tall and really want a 6 footer.
Did you have to have the one you bought from the farmer re-finished and if so what was the cost on that? The ones in the fields up the road would need some serious re-finishing!
thanks-
D
Refinish:
Yes, we had a pro come in and refinish the tub for us. Did the acid etch & the whole bit. It really looked nice, sure hated to have to sell that house. (got transferred). That gigantic, clawfoot tub was the selling point of the house. I'm 5'9 and could almost lie down flat in the tub. The one here in AL is the common 4-1/2 ft. tub. It needs to be refinished, I'll probably tackle this one myself.
Ahhh. To lie flat in a tub. sigh. So cramped in our current short tub. And it was even worse when I was pregnant with our twins!!! Only filled it with a few inches of water and then I would climb in and the water would be up to my chin. And my belly was still out of the water!!
Now let's see, a custom-built wooden tub, with a slight incline at one end (a bit of back support) and a ledge for a pillow. Lined with epoxy to seal it.
No problem, where do you want it? Any special decor on the outside? ;-)
