I had a broken waste line in a rental. THe tenant started noticing a smell. The leak has been fixed but of course the smell exists. I’m told to spread lime over the affected area. There are different types of lime aren’t there? How much to use?
P.S. The leak was only from the laundry and the kitchen sink. It was way up hill from the bathrooms.

Ground limestone from the garden store works fine. The limes raises the pH of the sewage which minimizes odor and kills pathogens. Pelletized will lime will work, but probably not as quickly.
kitty litter works
